Specification & Compliance Timeline

Selection packs pair hydraulic curves with process constraints: feed size into the crushing train, jaw opening and discharge opening on the secondary stage, screen vibration frequency, and the slurry SG that moves the pump BEP. Expert notes call out when a duty sits outside the published envelope — for example, froth fractions that need specialized impellers, or tailings lines where pipe friction dominates total dynamic head.

Limitations are printed beside the charts: laboratory cut-size tests use controlled feed and may understate site variability; wear-rate medians exclude tramp-metal events; and NPSH guidelines assume sump design meets the drawing package. If your site cannot meet those assumptions, request a site-matched recalculation before the purchase order freezes impeller diameter or cyclone apex size.

On the wet-versus-dry processing debate, WeirFlow Mining selection packs stay honest: wet classification and flotation remain the recovery path for most sulfide and iron-ore fines, while arid sites may prefer dry magnetic routes that change pump and cyclone demand entirely. Charts therefore state the process water assumption up front so capital and water infrastructure are sized together.

Primary Crushing Trade-off: Jaw vs Impact

When ROM hardness and product shape conflict, buyers still argue jaw crusher versus impact crusher. Jaw machines absorb feed-size spikes with a wider jaw opening, lower maintenance skill demand and a discharge opening that tracks CSS in millimeters — the practical primary for most hard-rock mills. Impact machines deliver higher cubicity for road-stone and asphalt aggregate, but liner life shortens and vibration frequency on the secondary screen often rises with clay or wet fines. Selection packs print both sides with expected output capacity (t/h) and hydraulic system pressure notes for any slurry transfer after the crusher, so capital and wear budgets are sized together.
